Questionable Tax Preparers

As part of its ongoing effort to combat fraud, the Comptroller’s Office investigates questionable tax preparation businesses and halts suspicious tax returns identified by its nationally recognized fraud unit, which uses state-of-the-art technology. Since 2007, the Office has taken action against questionable preparers and prevented the issuance of millions in fraudulent refunds.

If taxpayers suspect fraud, they are asked to immediately report the issue to the Comptroller's Office by calling the Questionable Returns Detection Team Fraud Line at 410-260-7449 in Central Maryland.
